CANADIAN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL HONG KONG
At CDNIS HK I have been able to focus on Upper Secondary, particularly the IB DP Visual Arts course with the opportunity to work some exceptionally creative students. In our US Visual Art classes we focus on developing student's creative confidence, exploring new techniques informed and inspired by contemporary artists while encouraging students to develop their own visual voice.
My role at CDNIS HK is doubly fantastic as that aligns directly with my Ph.D. research; looking at quality and ways to support VA teachers within international schools and allows me to reach out and connect with so many VA teachers from around the world. |
迷宮 LABYRINTH
This years cohort has had a unique journey through their 2 year experience, with the unpredictable stops and starts of the end of the COVID pandemic, giving students challenges of studio space and time as well as material availabilities. To counter balance the challenges, this cohort had the the feedback and guidance of two IB DP Visual Art teachers, Ms. Padsen (2022) and Ms. Atkinson(2023) The exhibition is the culmination of every twist and turn these artists took to reveal parts of themselves that were difficult for them to understand. Within this journey, there were times when these artists had to travel to the most vulnerable spaces within themselves, often leaving them feeling undone. It was within this space that they were able to create. Using a range of tools to express, create, experiment, and reveal, these artists were able to chart their pace and move forward along the labyrinth of the art-making process developing, visualizing, refining, reflecting; finding transformation in an expansive new vision of possibilities.
These artists have shared their stories in the hope that as a viewer, you will see a connection to your own experiences. It is the hope of these artists that you will see in our labyrinth of creativity, as we did, a metaphor for change and growth, and that you will join us on this path, through time and space so that we can transform together |
We have only to follow the thread of the labyrinth "…and where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves. Where we had thought to travel outward, we will come to the center of our existence. And where we had thought to be alone, we will be with all the world."
